FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I get started?
Create an account, then create a team or join one with an invite code from a teammate. Once the competition has started, head to the challenges.
How many players can a team have?
Up to 4. Playing alone is fine too: create a team of one. Teammates join with the invite code shown on My team.
What does a flag look like?
Flags look like CTF{...} unless a challenge says otherwise. Submit the whole flag, exactly as you found it, from the challenge panel.
How does scoring work?
Each challenge has a point value. Dynamic challenges start at their full value and lose value as more teams solve them; everyone who solved one gets its current value. Your score is the sum of your solved challenges, plus awards, minus the cost of the hints you unlocked.
How are ties broken?
Teams with the same score are ranked by who reached that score first.
Do hints cost points?
Free hints are shown on the challenge. Paid hints display their cost: unlocking one deducts it from your team's score, once for the whole team. You need at least that many points to unlock it, and it cannot be undone.
Why is a challenge locked?
Some challenges only unlock once you have solved another one. The challenge list tells you which challenge to solve first.
Is there a limit on flag submissions?
You can submit up to 10 flags per minute. Some challenges also limit the number of wrong attempts; the challenge panel shows how many you have left.
What happens when the scoreboard freezes?
No freeze is scheduled at the moment. If the organizers freeze the scoreboard, solves made after the freeze are revealed with the final results, and you still see your own solves.
Who can see the scoreboard?
Everyone, including visitors without an account.
Where do I find announcements?
On the announcements page. New announcements also pop up as a notification while the site is open.
A challenge seems broken. What should I do?
Check the announcements first. If nothing is posted, contact the organizers with the challenge name and what you tried. Do not share details about the challenge publicly.
Can I publish a write-up?
Yes, once the competition has ended. Sharing solutions or hints while it is running is not allowed.
